Engineering firm Mott MacDonald will roll out Microsoft products globally over the next year as it moves towards a Microsoft-centric business strategy.
More than 12,000 of the company’s staff in 140 countries will have access to Microsoft Windows 7, Office 2010 and Lync, and will implement the latest version of SharePoint when it is launched next year.
The roll-outs will benefit teams spread across the world that are working on projects together, as well as the increasing numbers of remote and mobile staff.
Windows 7 will provide data protection through anti-virus and encryption enforcement, while AppLocker will enable the IT department to specify and manage exactly what is allowed to run on user desktops.
Lync will enable instant messaging, video-conferencing and presence tagging.
Darren Russell, global IT director at Mott MacDonald, said the software will give it a platform from which to rethink business processes in relation to information and document management, internal collaboration and external collaboration.
“Together they will allow a more flexible approach to work, support our increasingly mobile workforce and help us enhance efficiency across the company – benefiting our customers and our business,” he said.
The next step will be a move to SharePoint 2013, which will replace the existing intranet. The business will utilise the social features of SharePoint 2013, while also providing better access to information for remote and mobile workers.
“When we launch SharePoint we’ll have a truly Microsoft-centric business strategy, which means that in terms of integration between products, everything just fits together,” said MacDonald.
