BASF extends BT network contract

By Cliff Saran

Chemical group BASF has signed a 200m deal with BT for networking 900 BASF sites in more than 80 countries. The contract includes the provision of IP telephony and local network services (managed LAN services) at 300 sites in North and South America as well as in Asia.

The contract, which will run over seven years for a total value of around €200m, extends BASF's long-standing cooperation with BT. The sites of chemical company Ciba, which BASF acquired, will also be networked by BT.

The chemicals company started using BT in 2004 to implement a managed network to cut costs, improve network flexibility and cope with future data requirements.
