40G optical fibre network technology will soon see general deployment, according to consulting firm Ovum.
“After many years of waiting the 40G market is finally moving to a generalised deployment phase,” said Ron Kline, research director at Ovum.
The finding comes from Ovum’s recent analysis of the 40G/100G market.
According to Ovum, the swell of interest in 40G stems from an increase in consumer requirements.
“Consumer demand, mostly driven by video, is stressing network capacities, and as long as this dynamic stays in place, 40G deployments will continue to see healthy growth,” Kline said.

To support and sustain this interest, Kline said the industry must reduce the cost of 40G, lest customers are turned away by high prices.
