Business Objects has introduced industry-specific business intelligence (BI) starter packs aimed at bringing off-the-shelf convenience to mid-size firms.

Each QuickStart pack provides report and dashboard templates and pre-built connectors, individually tailored to meet the needs of particular vertical markets or applications. This customisation, says Business Objects, should enable smaller companies to jump-start their BI projects quickly.
QuickStart Packs will be developed and marketed by Business Objects partners with specific market expertise. So far, three partners have released packs aimed at mid-range customers in the insurance industry and users of JD Edwards applications.
This initiative comes a month after Business Objects announced the Crystal Decisions product family, aimed at bringing enterprise BI muscle at mid-range prices.
“The new product line and associated QuickStart Pack partner programme will provide mid-size companies with tailored BI solutions that bring together key business metrics, data connectors, and reports with off-the-shelf convenience,” said James Koblelus, principal analyst at research firm Current Analysis.
