Dell delivers OS-free desktop for Linux lovers

Dell has begun shipping a new Windows-less desktop for customers who want to install Linux on their PCs.

The Dimension E510n PC comes with a blank hard drive and a user-installable copy of the FreeDOS operating system.

The machine costs £500 and comes with a Pentium 4 processor, 512Mbytes of memory and an 80Gbyte hard drive.

Previously, many companies that chose to use Linux had to erase Windows from the PC before installing Linux. The new Dell machine is designed to save time and money for users.

Dell already sells high-end PCs and servers equipped with Red Hat Linux.
