Computer Weekly wins top honour

By null

ComputerWeekly was last week declared the UK's campaigning magazine of the year at the publishing industry's annual awards for editorial excellence, presented by Joanna Lumley.

This is the second year running the magazine has won the Periodical Publishers Association's Editorial Campaign of the Year award.

The award recognises the success of ComputerWeekly's campaign for more openness and accountability in government IT projects. The judges described Computer Weekly's journalism as a "sustained, ambitious campaign tackling an extremely complex, multi-layered subject which overcame substantial institutional resistance to significantly influence government policy".

ComputerWeekly's editor Hooman Bassirian said: "Our campaign has thrown the spotlight on Whitehall's culture of secrecy, poor administration and waste. Our success has been hard fought, with many readers and organisations and groups lending their support to our cause - including two parliamentary committees.

"The government has taken a few steps in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go."
