Veritas boosts database performance

Veritas Software has unveiled Veritas Storage Extension product, which uses EMC's open API to link Veritas Indepth application performance management (APM) software with EMC arrays to give IT administrators more information about the performance of their EMC storage systems.

The Indepth product optimises the performance of Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 UDB database servers running on a wide variety of storage arrays including systems from EMC, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi and IBM.

Storage Extension enables IT managers to set up applications and databases for optimal performance in an EMC environment. It can be deployed as a replacement for EMC's DB Tuner and enables Indepth for Oracle, SQL Server APM and DB2 UDB software to display performance metrics from EMC's Symmetrix and, excluding DB2, Clariion arrays.

"IT managers will be able to optimise applications by rapidly detecting, diagnosing and enabling correction of performance problems by monitoring every transaction in real time, from the end-user through the storage array," said  Veritas senior director of product marketing Robert Maness.
