Acer is on the verge of parting company with Ideal Hardware after the distributor admitted it was winding down its relationship with the vendor.
Mark Walker, enterprise solutions director at Ideal Enterprise Solutions, confirmed the agreement was coming to an end, but insisted there could be a reconciliation in the future.
“We are big with Hewlett-Packard and Fujitsu Siemens and never achieved critical mass with Acer. PCs are logistics intensive and unless you reach economies of scale, it’s not worth doing,” Walker claimed.
He argued Acer was polarised around Becta business: “One swallow does not make a summer and you can’t count on education deals - we need run-rate business.”
Paul Cook, UK sales director at Acer, admitted: “We are constantly reviewing our channels of distribution.”
One industry source said Ideal had ploughed all efforts towards retaining its HP franchise.
