Compaq recalls 1.4 million notebook power supplies.
Compaq has recalled 1.4 million faulty notebook power supply units following reports of a potential fire hazard. The recall affects eleven models.
The company claims that only five "incidents" connected with the faulty power supplies have been reported so far. Compaq said that no personnel or property had suffered damage as a result of these incidents.
Compaq urged customers to stop using the recalled AC adapter immediately and to order a free replacement.
Compaq's recall follows similar moves by Dell, which recently recalled 284,000 notebook batteries. Apple Computer also recalled power supplies for over 500,000 Powerbook G3 Notebooks.
