Forrester: Achieving full virtualisation benefits depends on storage choice
According to Forrester Research Inc., businesses won’t fully benefit from virtualisation unless they deploy the correct storage for virtual platforms. A survey from the Cambridge, Mass.-based analyst firm found that organisations are using server virtualisation more for production applications rather than just deploying it for test-and-development environments. Ninety percent of respondents said they use virtual server technology for production, up from 78% last year, but managing storage for virtualisation remains a key challenge.

Apple to build 500,000-square-foot data centre
Apple has announced plans to build a new data centre in North Carolina. The company plans to invest $1 billion over the next 10 years into the 500,000-square-foot building. It is thought that the facility will be used to support the firm’s advertising network, music and video streaming services, cloud storage services or voice-activated personal services.

Dell updates PowerEdge C Series
Dell has updated its PowerEdge C Series of micro severs by adding more server modules. The product is aimed at denser compute environments, like data centres uses by hosting and cloud providers. The PowerEdge C5000 product line includes a 3U rack-mount enclosure that is designed to fit up to 12 separate server nodes with shared fans.

Train Signal releases new VMware vSphere Power CLI course
Computer training company Train Signal has released a new VMware vSphere Power CLI Training course. VMware vSphere Power CLI extends the functionality of Windows PowerShell with CMDlets designed for managing VMware servers. The course is currently offered for $397.

CA Technologies signs with NewLease
Storage vendor CA Inc. has signed a partnership with subscription software licensing company NewLease. Under the agreement, NewLease will distribute CA’s 3Tera AppLogic product range. AppLogic is used by managed service providers for cloud computing offerings.
