Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) is replacing its 13-year old Uniplex enterprise collaboration suite and has already floated request for proposals (RFPs) for the same. The project, based on a lease model, requires an investment of Rs 1 crore and will commence in February 2011.

The Uniplex enterprise collaboration suite is an all-in-one solution for creating documents and email. “Though it still works, it has outlived its life and will not be capable of being upgraded,” remarks Vijay Devnath, chief manager, information technology (IT) at KRCL.
Additionally, the alpha servers, a 15-year vintage on which the Uniplex system for enterprise collaboration runs, will also be phased out.
KRCL plans to opt for the private cloud model for its new enterprise collaboration suite. The suite will have a 16-application inventory and its features will resemble those on Google or Zoho products. It will include applications like email, document creation, multi-point chat, forums, intranet, and web publishing (on the company’s website).
“The enterprise collaboration suite is one of the most critical applications which bind our employees and operations. It will take at least eight months to implement, troubleshoot, and roll out the new enterprise collaboration suite in all places,” says Devnath.
