Weekly compilation of storage news: NetApp ships new Store Vault iS CSI SAN Network Appliance unveiled the Store vault S550, a larger capacity update to its original Store vault system, the S500, with 12 TB of storage capacity, thanks to support for 750 GB and 1 TB SATA drives. NetApp also added Microsoft application integration for the Store vault S550 and the Store vault S500 with the introduction of Snap Manager for SQL Server Store vault Edition software. Store vault S550 pricing starts at $5,535. Snap Manager for SQL Server Store vault edition pricing starts at $1,999. The products are available immediately. Storage vendors rally around Windows Server 2008 Microsoft officially launched Windows Server 2008 Thursday, and storage vendors responded with a parade of press releases for the new software. Most were basic statements of interoperability, like declarations from QLogic and Emulex that their cards will work with the new server, and FalconStor's suggestion that users turn to its IPS tor storage vitalization software for data migration to the new server. NetApp, EMC and CA reported new certifications for existing storage products with Windows Server 2008. Anabolic said its Eliot 2008 virtual file system and Asocial 2008 volume management software will form the storage underpinnings for Microsoft's new virtual server, Hyper-V, which will be included in Windows Server 2008. Wassail launches iS CSI SAN appliances Wassail Systems rolled out a new line of storage products called VMX iS CSI SAN appliances, which support multiple Gi gE interfaces and SATA or SAS drives. Models include the VMX 2000e, an entry-level system that scales to 12 TB raw and the VMX 2000sx, which has a capacity limit of 60 TB raw and 400 MB ps performance. Both models use a 2U/12 drive rack-mounted chassis and are available starting at $5,999 for a 2 TB system. Brocade launches new router, signs new deal with NetApp Brocade released the 7500E SAN router this week, an FCIP extender for entry-level remote data replication. Brocade 7500E customers can also upgrade to full Brocade 7500 capability via a software license upgrade. In a separate release, NetApp said it would OEM the Brocade DCX Backbone as part of its data center portfolio. Medical center archives with IBM and By Cast Richardson Regional Medical Center has standardized on By cast Storage GRID storage management software as part of IBM's Grid Medical Archive Solution (GMAS) to archive PACS images. IBM's Storage business delivers the By cast software to market as part of its GMAS. The storage system distributes data across two campuses, replacing mirroring over a high-bandwidth connection.
