Novell adds creation of EC2 images to SUSE Appliance Toolkit
Novell has announced new features to its SUSE Appliance Toolkit. The Toolkit includes SUSE Studio
and a suite of tools designed to make Linux-powered applications portable and cloud ready. The
latest version supports the creation of Amazon
EC2 images.
Companies fear analytics infrastructures won't hold up
Two-thirds of financial services companies worry that their analytics infrastructures won't be able
to cope with increasing analytical complexities and data volumes, according to a survey by Wall Street and Technology and other groups, including Platform
Computing, SAS and TABB Group. Completed in July of this year, the survey reveals that companies
are being affected by lack of scalability, inflexible architectures and inefficient use of
computing capacity.
SNIA GSI releases second draft of its Storage Power Efficiency Measurement
Specification
The Storage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA) Green Storage Initiative (GSI) has released
the second draft of its Storage Power Efficiency Measurement Specification, as a
follow-up to its SNIA Green Storage Power Measurement Technical Specification released in January
2009. The new draft adds active power measurement to the specification and five software-based
capacity optimisation techniques.
HDS unveils Virtual Storage Platform (VSP)
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has unveiled a new storage platform, in addition to new software to go with it. The
Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) is designed to "dynamically scale up, scale out and scale
deep."
Magirus launches vBundle
Value-added distributor Magirus has launched its
vBundle unified data centre offerings to businesses across Europe. Aimed at the SME market, the
offering includes technologies from VMware, Cisco and EMC.
