Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS) has implemented DataCore SANmelody as storage to support its VM4rent...
service, which provides computing infrastructure and services on a charge-back basis across 25 colleges and 15 departments.
The 3 TB iSCSI-based DataCore product virtualises storage on heterogeneous arrays and supports rapid deployment of applications from two VMware ESX 3.5 servers. This configuration replaces one that previously provided storage to physical servers from IBM and EMC Fibre Channel storage-area networks (FC SANs).
"The principles behind our VM4rent scheme are perfectly echoed and served by SANmelody," said Jon Hutchings, senior systems engineer at OUCS Network Systems Management Service, "allowing us to plug in storage and support virtual servers as and when we need, ultimately providing a cost-effective storage solution that we are happy to recommend."
Infortrend unveils new ESVA array range
Infortrend has unveiled its Enterprise Scalable Virtualized Architecture (ESVA) SAN products. The arrays support Fibre Channel or iSCSI SAN protocols, and include features such as storage virtualisation, thin provisioning, distributed load balancing, array-based snapshots and replication, energy efficiency and high-availability hardware design.
