Virtual infrastructure management challenges are hindering the adoption of virtualisation within businesses, according to research.
A survey of 253 CIOs by Vanson Bourne and Veeam Software shows 45% felt management concerns are slowing down the company's adoption of virtualisation. A total of 49% of CIOs said the deployment of virtualisation is delayed by the lack of visibility into its virtual estate.
Ratmir Timashev, CEO at Veeam Software, says traditional enterprise management tools are unable to manage complex virtual infrastructures, forcing 80% of organisations to use specialist tools instead.
"With these larger and increasingly complex virtual infrastructures have come management challenges that traditional tools cannot cope with. As a result, rather than a single, over-arching view of their entire IT estate, organisations are receiving a progressively more fractured picture," said Timashev.
"Left unchecked, this lack of visibility will impact the IT department's ability to effectively manage its virtual infrastructure and consequently limit the true potential of this technology," he added.
Gartner recently predicted the worldwide infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market will grow from $3.7bn (£2.3bn) in 2011 to $10.5bn (£6.5bn) in 2014.
