According to a recent survey from the Department of Work and Pensions employee sickness at work isn't being recorded correctly, if at all. In fact some 21 per cent of employers haven't got any form of process for recording sickness absence - more so if the firm was small.

Interestingly, and not unsurprisingly, larger employers suffer from more staff being on sick leave when compared to smaller businesses.
As if to pour salt into the wound, two thirds of employers haven't taken any steps to help employees with health issues either stay in work or return to work.
The survey did show strong agreement with the premise that employers have a responsibility to encourage employees to be healthy and that there is a link between work and well-being.
That said, only a small majority agreed that there was a financial advantage to spending on employee healthcare.
