RnD Systems Integration has highlighted the growing demand from smaller companies for cloud technology as customers look to migrate away from legacy systems and push some automated tasks off-site.
The reseller has been working with retail marketing agency Brodie & Stone to provide hosted email and storage services as the company looks to move away from legacy systems and build more resilience into its storage and disaster recovery plans.
Up to now the customer had been using tape back-up but turned to its existing reseller RnD to provide a solution, with the reseller leaning on the resources available on the Alvea cloud platform to provide storage and file sharing.
The RnD example illustrates where chances are emerging for resellers from customers looking to make a transition away from aging technology or to put intensive tasks into the cloud.
The Brodie & Stone project also reveals the speed of a cloud implementation with the project getting sign off in December before a two-phase implementation began this month as the firm's email was moved to a cloud-based hosted Exchange 2013 platform.
“Because we’ve bought into a fully managed solution with 24/7 support, we now not only have guaranteed service levels but also predictable monthly costs. We anticipate that the total cost of ownership will be significantly lower than our previous system without having to make a major capital outlay, which would have been the alternative to moving to the cloud. As a small business with no internal IT department, both of these factors are key to us," said Danny Mitchell, finance director for Brodie & Stone.
Leigh Stringer, sales director at RnD, said that it had been able to be quick in delivery because it was working with a cloud platform that made it straightforward to roll out flexible storage services.
