Unified communications software specialist Mitel and enterprise comms vendor Aastra jumped into bed in a merger that is set to create a $1.1bn (£688m) revenue company. The deal will see Mitel acquire all outstanding Aastra common shares for $6.52 plus 3.6 Mitel shares each, for a total price of approximately $374m (£234m). The move was billed by both parties as a largely strategic play, designed to build scale in a consolidating market and, so the duo claim, will hand it the unified comms market-leadership position in Western Europe.
Channel finance specialist Syscap has reacted to the changes in the channel by unveiling financial support packages that are designed to help resellers make the changes to their business models to take advantage of the growth in subscription-based packages. The firm has traditionally worked with resellers to provide credit to users looking to buy technology, but with most channel businesses being SMEs themselves the focus has now broadened to include support for those firms struggling to make the transition to a managed services model.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has stepped up the support it provides for partners selling its hosted offering devising a set of competencies and rewards for those that work closely with the firm. AWS has introduced competencies for partners that have expertise with Microsoft Exchange, Oracle and SAP and can help migrate and manage those solutions on the AWS cloud.
Logicalis has named former Logica UK CEO and long-serving BT and IBM employee Gary Bullard to the post of CEO, replacing Ian Cook who is stepping up to become non-executive chairman at the firm in the New Year. Bullard’s IT career spans over a quarter of a century and includes stints as MD of BT’s corporate business and president of its Global Services wing, as well as GM of IBM Global Services EMEA and GM of IBM Global Solutions.
Video collaboration software specialist Blue Jeans Network has formally launched in the UK market, promising to help the channel add more value to its video conferencing hardware sales. The three and a half year-old start-up was founded with a mission to democratise video conferencing, and make it into a true mass market proposition.
