Android applications have become a major focus for hackers helping make the UK one of the countries with the highest rates of smartphone malware.
The Q1 2012 E-Threat Landscape Report from Bitdefender has charted a hike in activity around smartphones in with the UK now fourth behind China, Russua and France for suffering high malware rates.
In addition to rises in malware Android applications rose significantly at the start of this year with most of the attacks trying to gain data from users.
"Data privacy seems to be the number one targeted area and malware coders are devising new ways of silently accessing and forwarding sensitive information via attacker-controlled servers. More than that, re-packaged applications bundled with malware and delivered through alternative Android Marketplaces have proven an effective means of distributing malicious apps," stated the Threat report.
As well as smartphone security the other main feature of the first three months of this year was the rise of the threats on the Mac OS X in the form of the Flashback botnet.
