Avaya has confirmed the acquisition of Simon Culmer as its new UK and Ireland managing director, replacing Andrew Sheppard, who departed the comms firm in April after just eight months in charge.

Culmer joins Avaya from the position of UK and Ireland enterprise vice president at Huawei, where he too had been a relative newcomer to proceedings, joining the Chinese firm last summer with a brief to bulk up its distie channel after stints at both Sun and Cisco.
In a brief statement today, Avaya said Culmer will be reporting to Mario di Mascio, EMEA sales veep, who had been running the UK on an interim basis, and has been charged with ramping up support for its reseller community.
"It is my job to make sure that [Avaya's] reputation is enhanced through greater sales and greater partner relationships. I inherit an excellent team and together ... I know we can achieve that goal," Culmer said.
Over in the US, meanwhile, Avaya has welcomed on board Sandra Devine, ex-CGI and HP, who joines as vice president of Avaya Professional Services and former General Electric man Todd Johnstone, who joins as vice president of global sales operations.
