Cisco CEO John Chambers told investors that the firm's turnaround plan is hitting its stride, and warned of more aggressive transformation to come, laying into his competitors and suggesting he had gone easy on them up to now.

Kesa ends Comet saga selling retail chain for £2
Comet might be known for its bargains come the Christmas sales but it came up with an offer venture capital found difficult to refuse with its parent selling it for £2. The buyer is a group of companies under a name Hailey, which has been advised by OpCapita, and does include a £50m investment from Kesa, which will retain liability for the staff final salary pension scheme and the responsibility for services and warranties also stays with the current owners.

Calyx software acquisition strategy to live on at m-hance
Mark Thompson, CEO at m-hance, a new software firm formed last week from the integration of seven businesses, said the firm will look to continue its predecessor Calyx Software's acquisition strategy, as revealed in June.

Stoke insurance firm latest to settle up with BSA
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) snared a Stoke-based insurance firm in its legal net as part of its ongoing drive to crack down on those outfits using unlicensed software. Autonet Insurance Services Limited has settled with the BSA after being caught using unlicensed software following an audit and paid out £3,000 and had costs of implementing measures to ensure it stayed on the right side of the law.

VIP picks up CMS Computers to bolster PC assembly position
PC and components distributor VIP Computers acquired Liverpool-based computer assembler CMS Computers to grow its share of the UK market as well as extending the support resources it can offer customers.
