Some caution has been sounded by those selling into vertical markets around the current advice being sounded by analyst firms for users to start rolling out tablets.
Gartner announced earlier this month that it advised CIOs to start experimenting now with iPads and the like to ensure they were ahead of the competition.
The analyst house has not been alone in predicting a significant take-off in tablet sales across Europe this year with IDC also forecasting strong sales.
But at the coalface it might not be quite the time to push the tablet message.
"The challenge that CIOs have in adopting the iPad into a business environment is how to make it work in the short order without incurring massive redevelopment costs of their existing systems," said Tony Speakman, director at FileMaker.
The firm has launched a business app for the iPad and is behind greater workforce flexibility but Speakman urged resellers to push the benefits realistically to customers.
"While it's true that many execs can use tablets for email and calendars on the move - in itself a worthwhile move - there is a wider potential for potential use available, for example tapping straight into their existing SQL and Oracle systems using remote access apps such as FileMaker Go," he added.
But looking to gain those benefits would require greater work and more than a quick hardware sale from a reseller.
