Cloud security vendor Prevx has been acquired by Webroot for an undisclosed sum to bulk up its own cloud practice.

Derby-based Prevx specialises in cloud-based antivirus and behaviour-based malware detection, which Webroot believes will give it an edge over fast-moving cybercriminals.

"Security venodrs have expected customers to buy, install, maintain and then manage security products that cannot keep pace," explained Webroot CEO Dick Williams.

"Prevx block[s] threats before they can ever reach a PC or corporate network. This technology, combined with Webroot's innovations, customer service and support, will make it easy for businesses to protect their employees and their networks," he added
