The looming deadline for compliance to the PCi credit card security measures are forcing retailers to look to the channel for support as they try to get on the right side of the law.
From 30 September major retailers will be expected to prove that they are PCI compliant and have the ability to meet the security requirements that means customer data will be protected.
Tier one merchants, those delivering more than six million transactions a year, will have to be fully complaint from the end of September.
Alex Teh, commercial director of Vigil Software, said that it had been inundated with calls from merchants worried about PCI looking for ways to become compliant in time for the deadline.
"We are seeing a big increase in PCI led projects," he added "they have got to actually do it and are talking to use about people wanting to be ready to meet the requirements."
There have been several deadlines but raced with a recession the retail sector hunkered down last year and concentrated on trading through difficulties but as growth returns the focus on PCI has again increased.
Teh said that it would be looking for potential fines, which could be imposed from some of the main movers and shakers behind PCi like Visa, to those that failed to be complaint after that deadline.
Earlier this week the PCI Security Standards Council appointed a European director Jeremy King to make sure that the message was spread locally about the need for compliance.
"The European region is critical to the global adoption of the standards and the security of
cardholder data," said King.
He added that Europe was at different stages in terms of card security and his job was about working towards a "common goal" getting global standards agreed across the community.
