Hewlett-Packard has signed an agreement with video-conferencing software provider Vidyo to run Vidyo's software-based desktop and room video solutions on HP servers as part of its Halo desktop and room-sized telepresence offering.

The HP-branded solutions will deliver higher-quality video with lower cost of ownership to customers, relying on a scalable video codec that can optimise the viewing experience depending on network quality, the partners claimed.

"Customers need a complete portfolio of endpoint solutions, including video at the desktop, on mobile devices and in conference rooms so they can collaborate more effectively," said HP Halo Telepresence solutions general manager, Rob Scott.

The partnership should begin to bear fruit later in the year and will be marketed jointly through HP's channel partners.
