Computacenter has merged its product and services divisions into one business unit and "thinned" the management structure in a move that should address internal conflict or duplication as well as cut costs.

The company operated with hardware, software, technical services, managed services and support services divisions, but these have been folded into one unit managed by Mark Howling, director of services and solutions.

"This should remove internal conflict and duplication that we had in the old structure which will make us quicker and more nimble in the market," said Mike Norris, chief executive at Computacenter.

The merged lines will sit alongside five customer divisions; Public Sector, Financial Services, Financial Markets, System Integrator and Industrial and Commercial. "This will align the business by customers," added Norris.

As part of the restructure, the corporate integrator-come-reseller has "taken some management out" including John Joslin, who had been managing director for hardware sales before leaving the business last year.

Others exiting the business are Nick Illiage, who ran CCU before the standalone unit was shut down, Alan Back, head of Government sales, Cherry Freeman, director for software and Sarah Long, head of corporate projects.
