It is getting harder for techies to find work in the current climate with the competition for jobs increasing along with candidates being less selective about the sorts of positions they will apply for.
According to the latest findings from the IT Job Board 74% of people are experiencing problems finding work and 58% admitted that they were less choosy about the jobs they went for with some willing to accept lower pay and contract work.
In a bid to keep up to date with the market, and keeping their profile up, a third revealed that they use online networking tools.
Alex Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board, said that because of the recession getting a job involved making much more effort and candidates had to revise their criteria.
"There are fewer jobs being advertised and employers are receiving greater response levels for campaigns. Now, more than ever, it is crucial for candidates to keep up to date with the market," she said.
Even those economists who think that the economy might be coming out of recession, with a period of stabilisation, have warned that job losses will continue to mount.
