The impact of the recession is already being felt in the demand for flexible working applications that will enable companies to cut costs.
According to research from Mitel most of the channel’s customers were looking to cut costs and just shy of half thought that flexible working was one of the ways to achieve that aim.

Some key technologies, including unified communications, have been identified by analysts as areas that will continue to grow in the downturn and already that is being adopted in enterprise customers.
“At the enterprise level this is being taken up and in that market UC is a technology very much for 2009,” said one reseller.
The Mitel research comes just weeks after extreme weather conditions forced many companies to evaluate their flexible working because staff could not get into the office.
“Teleworking applications have always been in demand,” said Clive Laycock, service delivery manager at Alternative Networks in a statement.
“However we have recently seen an upsurge in sales as companies want to cut costs and drive efficiencies by offering home working. Companies also want to offer staff a flexible working approach as a way to retain and attract the best staff,” he added.
Recent research conducted by the Cranfield School of Management on behalf of Siemens Enterprise Communications, out today, said that well over three quarters of UK SMEs wanted to improve productivity through communications.
