Contractor changes at the Identity and Passport Service

The Identity and Passport Service has been making changes to its contractor line-up. PA Consulting Group has had its JTrack contract terminated as a result of losing a memory stick containing data on prisoners and prolific offenders. The exact nature of the termination, and to which services it applies, is not yet clear, but PA's work on the National Identity Scheme is under review.

Meanwhile, ad giant M&C Saatchi has been hired to promote ID cards, the first of which are issued in November to foreign nationals (under the UK Borders Act, not the ID Cards Act). Luckily for them much of the work's already been done - Absolute Power predicted this in 2005.
