A quick fix for RFID

With Wal-Mart having pressed the accelerator pedal again on its RFID activities and put the squeeze on its suppliers to be RFID-compliant, it's interesting to see how quickly vendors have stepped up to offer what I'd call 'quick fix RFID'.

Lowry Computer Products and Sato are just two of the companies offering suppliers the means to get as close as possible to Wal-Mart's end of January deadline - and avoid paying a $2 per pallet fee.

One figure quoted as the number of Wal-Mart suppliers who have to comply with the retailer's
mandate is 15,000. That's an awful lot of quick fixes needed. No wonder vendors are jumping on the bandwagon.
