Mobile Health is provding health workers with a way to support te population in developing nations. In this podcast, I speak to Claire Thwates, head of Vodafone Foundation and United Nations Foundation Partnership about how SMS text alerts can be used to enable patients to adhere to their prescriptions, education programmes to improve health awareness, data collection and training of health care workers.

In the year 2004, Hearts and Brains, an NGO in Sarangani Province, Philippines started to use the cellphones to give medical advice to patients living in remote communities. Patients send the signs and symptoms of their illness to the doctor and the doctor will send back the medical advice and the first aid medication, if necessary. We made a code for the signs and symptoms so that all the information about the illness can be sent in just one text message. We are happy to share our experience about this project.
