HP augments. Really

| More

Yup, Downtime has been offered a chance to review HP's latest invention, an augmented reality app that plays back a video when you point your phone at a photograph. OK, let's try it on Munch's "The Scream" to see what the app does. We can report back the screamer didn't tell us what all the screaming was about...

Next, how about if we try the app on one of our Downtime correspondents. "Hold still mate, let's see if I can see your vid on my new HP phone app." Ouch.  Feels like a real punch, augmented by an aching jaw.

Hmmn, so this app apparently only works if you upload the vid first, then print out the photograph. HP has kindly provided an explanatory video to help those people on the AppStore who honestly believe an app can animate any picture.

So I'm just off to grab an original of The Scream.
