Cecil, Austin and Muriel are snails on a mission to deliver email at a snails' pace..... equipped with electronic equipment allowing them to send emails on behalf of visitors to the website RealSnailMail. 
The snails are fitted with a tiny capsule which holds a Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) chip. RFID allows objects to communicate over
short distances. When a snail slips within range of the electronic reader the message is attached to the RFID chip.
Emails are then physically carried around until the snails pass within range of a second reader, where they are picked up and forwarded onto the receipt in the normal way.
What's the point: well it's part of a slow art project at Bournemouth University. Researchers hope the project will encourage users to take their time and consider technology at work, a reaction to the hectic pace of modern life.
For those that are interested you'd want Austin to be your "carrier pigeon", he has delivered 10 out of 14 messages at just under two days a message. Come on Muriel.
