Digital Britain Interim Report: General Impression

Michael Pincher

When the motorway network was built in the UK roads were laid on journey planning assumptions made in the abstract. When finished the M25 for example, spawned many more routes than when it was conceived and quickly reached gridlock. Will the proposed digital network turn out the same?

In the worst case, we could wind up with a network that has the effect of fostering addiction to a new generation of e-narcotics whose principal themes revolve around instant gratification through content determined by mega-corporations pushing mindless consumption of things we don't need and aren't good for us.

One should always be concerned when a government is promoting a "cakes and games" strategy.reminiscent of the Romans.
