There's been much written on the forensic use of bioinformation: ethical issues report from Nuffield Council on Biometics published last week, highlights cost as a big factor:
The costs of sampling increasing numbers of individuals, maintaining an expanding database, and storing millions of biological samples will continue to escalate, yet there is little supportive empirical evidence that demonstrates significant benefits in terms of crime detection
The government is set to spend billions of pounds on yet another complex database project. Every newborn baby will be registered; every child, adult and visitor to the UK will be identified.
Some hope eh? This is an extremely complex project, and arguably not the best use of tax payer's money.
