My Dopey Space forever

Cliff Saran

Shock horror...Alistair Darling, John Hutton, Ruth Kelly, Hazel Blears, Teresa Jowell, Jacqui Smith, Yvette Cooper and Andy Burnham have all admitted smoking cannabis when they were younger.

Earlier this week the Guardian newspaper reported on how Cambridge University staff were gathering evidence on students misbehaving by looking at their Facebook antics. The article states:

Facebook: students face fines of £100 after university authorities saw photographs on the website of them misbehaving

What's the link? The Cambridge incident is just the beginning. Today social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, and Bebo have attracted millions of users who happily reveal intimate details of their private lives. Now what's going to happen in 10 or 20 years time, when such individuals may well have successful careers? Unless social networking users scrupulously delete anything remotely out of the ordinary, there's a real risk the past will come back to haunt them.
