I am extremely rude abut awareness events which do not give guidance on what to actually do as a result of becoming aware. This series is more “education ” than awareness. This time my criticism was, therefore, that the lack of promotion to the target audience meant that those who would benefit most were not aware of most of the previous events. The head of the KTN is also ex-STC. We were near contemporaries and taught the same approach to dealing with troublemakers. I was therefore “invited” to help circulate the details more widely, hence this blog entry

After a succesful pilot in the Worcester area the ICT KTN (the knowledge transfer network funded with your money by BIS) supported a series of regional free seminars to inform SMEs on the “Cyber Threat” to their business and give some simple steps on how to protect against the threat and, perhaps more importantly, how to provide confidence to their suppliers and customers that they are doing so. A simple overview of insurance issues associated with data risks was added.
The organising consortium included Get Safe Online, BIS, IASME (created with government support to provide security certification for SMEs), Deep Secure and Sutcliffe & Co (who organise cyber security insurance).
