Are Accenture, Deloitte, IBM etc under pressure from IT specialists?

Wipro is targeting growth in the consultancy space and is already taking staff from the likes of Accenture, IBM, Deloitte

According to new European head of Wipro this is because of it “business model, direction and [the] opportunity to grow with an “entrepreneurial” Global IT services company.”

It makes sense companies such as Wipro can broaden their services because they have worked closely with some of the biggest global corporates for quite some time now.

Why shouldn’t they take more responsibility in large transformational projects?  Consultancy is all about people, so if companies like Wipro can attract staff from the big five consultancies the options for IT project leaders might increase.

So could the likes of IBM, Deloitte and Accenture be under threat from some of the large pure play IT giants?

But who will challenge and what will they have to do to topple the consultacy giants?

Not an easy task to get into the consulting space. Just recruiting resources will not help. That approach was taken by Pure players sometime back but didn't succeed. Consulting resources are not easy to retain and will leave if they do not get challenging transformation projects to work on. They are of course not cheap to have either. To get into a space to attract not just IT projects but Business Transformation engagement needs a focussed long term strategy to be put in place. Some of these firms have a strategy and eventually they will compete with the established consulting players. For the consumer more the players the better. Pricing pressures will be there and this will force Accenture's and Deloitte's of the world to compete on price points with Offshore IT Majors but this will take some more time.

Yes it is tough to get into that market. Yes the staff will certainly not be cheap, but Wipro says it has already picked up a few from the big players.

I agree that more consultancy firms will be a good thing for end users. I also agree that it will take a long time for companies such as Wipro to challenge.
