This white paper describes how Micro-Partitioning™ can be
employed on IBM~® OpenPower™ 720 systems for serverconsolidation.
An example consolidationscenario is included that explores
theperformance robustness of Micro-Partitioning ina demanding
transactional environment.
This exercise results in three key points.First, virtualization
using a single OpenPower720 with five partitions can provide the
samelevel of performance as five heavily loadeddedicated 44P-270
servers. Fundamentally,OpenPower platforms with IBM
VirtualizationEngine systems technology provide scalabilityand
granularity that effectively allow fourPOWER5 processors to do the
work of twentylegacy POWER3™ processors in a demandingWeb
application serving environment.
