A school in Swindon has saved £17,000 a year after deploying a
systems management appliance which allows it to control and update
its suite of 600 PCs and Apple Macs remotely.
Isambard Community School, which specialises in the performing
arts, claims that the system has saved it the equivalent of a full
time IT technician.
"The existing system was very flaky. It did not cope with what
we wanted to do. We were looking for a solution that would deal
with Macs and PCs," said Matt Garland, IT network manager.
The school made the savings after deploying management
appliances supplied by KACE.
The appliances allow the 3 strong IT team to manage and keep
track of software updates on each desktop and laptop used in the
school .
The system also manages user log-ins, and manages IT help desk
requests from staff and pupils submitted to a support web site.
The system meant that the school did not have to buy a separate
help desk package, said Garland.
