Swindon is the place where faster 4G mobile networks might take
off in the UK.
Motorola is using its Swindon labs to
trial the first 4G
networks.
4G - also known as Long Term Evolution (LTE) - has just been
tested in the area using fledgling LTE networks and handsets.
Motorola is now inviting mobile operators to conduct their own
tests on the networks.
Although 3G as a true nationwide mobile broadband offering has
not been with us for long,
4G is competing with mobile Wimax to be the next big thing.
Vodafone is already testing a faster hybrid of 3G to fill the space
as well.
In the
4G
Motorola tests, LTE voice calls and high-speed data services
were streamed over 2.6GHz networks.
"Motorola is at the
forefront of 4G development, which will address the mobility
demands of today's consumers who are looking for personalised media
experiences, and operators looking to lower their cost per bit and
gain a competitive advantage," said Joe Cozzolino, senior
vice-president and general manager, Motorola EMEA home and networks
mobility.
Visitors to Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona this month
can experience
Motorola's LTE live in a mobile environment.
