Car makers will today officially announce a Linux development
alliance at the CeBIT show in Hannover.
Genivi is a new industry
alliance that aims to take advantage of Linux as an open source
development platform for in-car "Infotainment".
Genivi is a non-profit organisation founded by BMW, General
Motors and Peugeot Citroen, along with component makers Delphi,
Magneti Marelli and Visteon. It also has the backing of CPU maker
Intel and embedded systems developer Wind River.
Genivi development has already started, based on Intel's Atom
processor and the Wind River Linux platform. The first systems
based on the partners' standards are expected to be available this
summer.
