ALinux-basedunifiedcommunications platformwill be
launched at next month's CeBIT show in Germany. The software-based
beta solution will be available for firms to download from next
month.
The offering combines telephony, e-mail, instant messaging and
collaboration into a single unified product, both on the back end
for administrators and on the desktop for users.
Rather than spending £20,000 or more on a separate PBX telephone
system and e-mail server, SMEs can instead install this system,
said developer Unison, which can
deliver claimed cost savings above 85%.
Michael Choupak, CEO at Unison said, "After several years of
development the product works as a fully-unified system out of the
box. There is no need to integrate the product with a third-party
PBX or other server, because it simply works immediately, with all
communication features included and unified."
With this Server, said Choupak, companies no longer need to
deploy a PBX and telephone system, or an e-mail and instant
messaging server, as all of these features are built in.
In effect, he said, a company's entire communication system can
run off a single Linux server. This reduces deployment costs as
well as ongoing maintenance.
Users also get Desktop, a single application for all their
communications. It combines not only e-mail, contacts and
calendars, but also telephony, instant messaging and Intelligent
Presence, a real-time free/busy status based on a user's current
activity.
All messages, chats and voicemail are accessible and searchable,
and all conversations take place within this application.
