A GPRS-based vehicle tracking system to improve fleet management
has been adopted by one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of
landscape materials.
Marshalls Plc is installing Cybit’s GPRS fleet management and
two-way messaging system in 150 of its own delivery vehicles and in
others used by its main contractors.
The communications solution will be integrated with Marshalls’s
existing Baan enterprise resource planning system and its dynamic
routing and scheduling technology.
GPRS units in the vehicles will continuously collect vehicle
location-based information and update back-office systems every few
minutes, to enable Marshall’s transport management team to identify
and respond to potential delays to its supply chain in real
time.
Stewart Potter, group logistics manager at Marshalls, said:
"Running a £35m distribution business efficiently requires high
levels of vehicle visibility and cost-effective communication with
your fleet.
"Using Cybit’s system means that we can make informed decisions
about the estimated times of arrival for our vehicles and cost
effectively stay in touch with our drivers."
Other users of the Cybit system will likely be found in the
service engineering, vehicle hire, mobile office, and local
authority sectors.
