Yahoo andOpera Softwarehave announced a partnership to bring theOpera
Minimobile web browser and the "full
internet" to more mobile phone users.
Yahoo is expected to begin distributing Opera Mini via the Yahoo
Mobile website and other channels in the near future. The Opera
Mini client, which is designed to bring web pages to mobile phones
quicker through compression, will be available free of charge.
"Yahoo Mobile
with Opera Mini is easily accessible to end-users, operators and
manufacturers, and provides a cost-effective means of getting the
internet on your phone," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO at Opera
Software. "Together, Yahoo and Opera will bring the full Web
experience to your phone, similar to how you know it from your
desktop computer."
"We are excited to announce this partnership with Opera to bring
Opera Mini to Yahoo Mobile users, enabling our consumers to surf
the internet on their mobile devices," said David Ko, senior
vice-president for Connected Life at Yahoo.
Earlier this week, Vodafone announced it was developing its own
version of Opera Mini for its customers.
