Marks & Spencer has signed a deal with IBM and SAP in a bid to use IT to improve stock visibility and management of information.

The retailer will implement a range of SAP retail applications, which will provide it with accurate business data and "robust core processes".

IBM will manage the programme, which consists of a set of business applications designed for large retailers.

One job of the IT will be to improve accuracy of business data, helping the retailer to monitor and report its environmental activities.

Darrell Stein, Marks & Spencer's director of IT & logistics, said, "In order to provide the very best customer service, we need to be flexible and agile to their changing needs. The SAP solution, implemented by IBM, will allow us to do that."
