Toshiba is joining forces with Intel and Microsoft to
bring PC multimedia content to larger TV screens.
Toshiba is
launching
new LCD TVs, LCD TV/DVD Combos and standalone network players that
support the Widget Channel applications framework promoted by
Intel and Yahoo!, and which include Extender for Windows Media
Center technology.
Toshiba will first bring the new products to the US market in
the second half of 2009. It is exhibiting them at this week's 2009
Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
With TV Widgets and Extender for Windows Media Center
technology, the consumer will have greater flexibility to customise
and enhance their entertainment experience, said Toshiba.
TV Widgets, which run on the Widget Channel applications
framework developed by Intel and Yahoo! and driven by Intel's
consumer electronics media processors, allow viewers to access rich
content over the internet on their TVs via a home network and
user-friendly interface that appears on their TV screen.
