The European Commission (EC) is
reportedly planning proposals designed to make it easier for
firms to ditch paper-based invoices in favour of greener
e-invoicing systems.
The proposals are expected to be tabled later this year, when
they will be considered by member states.
As well as saving firms money on paper, printing and delivery
costs, widespread e-invoicing would contribute to reducing the
European member states' carbon footprints.
The wider adoption of e-invoicing has been hampered by different
compliance, tax and payment rules in member states though.
The European Commission has now set up a special advisory group
to consider how such barriers to e-invoicing can be lifted.
