
Lord Ashdown has condemned government plans to spend
£12bn on a “Big Brother” database to monitor all the UK's
electronic communications.
In an interview today with Computer Weekly senior reporter Ian
Grant, the co-chairman of the Commission on National Security at
the influential think-tank, the Institute for Public Policy
Research, said invasions of privacy on such as scale were
“extremely dangerous”.
Despite calling for greater international cooperation to fight
terrorism and organised crime, he also condemned current moves to
increase the sharing of personal data across international
borders.
