IBM's supercomputers are more energy efficient than platforms
offered by its rivals.
According to
research
from the Green500.org , which measures supercomputer
performance, the top 20 most energy-efficient supercomputers in the
world are built on IBM computing technology.
Big Blue, in fact, holds 39 of the top 50 positions on the list.
IBM competes in the supercomputing market against the likes of
Cray, SGI and Hewlett-Packard.
The annual report found that the most energy-efficient
supercomputer in the world is the IBM machine located at the
Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational
Modelling at the University of Warsaw.
This system produces more than 536Mflops (millions of floating
point operations per second) per watt of energy.
The first non-IBM entry on the list is from SGI, which offers
240 Mflops per watt. The most energy efficient system from HP
offers 217 Mflops per watt.

Supermicro.
